The Dress

Fall 2011 Vera Wang Genevieve, Ivory with Vera Wang Orginal Sash included. I fell in love and purchased this dress from Browns bridal in the UK. I wore it to my wedding in South Africa at the Oyster box hotel. It was my dream dress

Genevieve is quite essential to what the Fall collection is about: a study in volume and asymmetry, from the unconventional sweetheart neckline, to the tension between the restrained, slender mermaid shape of the underskirt and the asymmetrical breadth of the peplum. Genevieve is a very romantic dress, it’s completely ethereal, and it also has a Modernist soul that will speak to the bride in search of a design that’s complex and artistic. Genevieve starts with two foundational elements: a sophisticated, very fitted, angular bodice, with its asymmetrical wisp of tulle, and then a sexy, sleek mermaid gown at the base. These make up the base for the gown’s center of attention, which is the horsehair peplum overskirt that gives Genevieve that classic, flouncy ball gown shape. There’s a great deal of complexity in the layering of this peplum: it’s quite dynamic.
